What sublimation paper is and what it is for

Sublimation paper is a special paper for inkjet printing with sublimation ink. It takes the ink well and then, under heat, releases almost all of it onto the product: a mug, puzzle, metal plate, T-shirt or other blank with a polymer coating. So the short answer to what sublimation paper is for: it carries the image from the printer to the product. The image is printed as a mirror and comes out correct on the finished item. Paper quality decides colour saturation, sharp edges and the absence of bleeding.

Which sublimation paper to choose

• A4 and A3 sublimation paper (China, 100 g/m²) — the most affordable option for daily work. A 100-sheet A4 pack costs about 232 UAH, and a 50-sheet A3 pack about 240 UAH.

Choose the format by your printer and product size. A4 suits mugs, magnets and small blanks. A3 suits T-shirts, large puzzles and items needing a full-surface image; A3 sheets can also be cut down for smaller blanks. Keep a separate thin pack for test prints and colour tuning. For paper in rolls, ask a manager; at the moment the catalogue lists sheet formats.

How to use sublimation paper

Load the paper into a printer with sublimation ink, print in mirror mode and transfer the print to the product in a heat press at about 180–200 °C. Let the paper rest in the room before printing and do not touch the ink with your fingers afterwards. Print only on the working side of the sheet and place protective paper under the product.
