Mug heat press: what it is and how it works

A mug heat press is a machine with a heating element that wraps tightly around a cylindrical mug and, within a few minutes, transfers an image from sublimation paper onto its surface. How to choose a mug heat press

• Number of mugs per cycle. An affordable model is enough to start: the CE-01 at 3299.45 UAH or the MP-70VA at 4399.95 UAH. The ST-210 prints two mugs at once (7353.00 UAH), and the OKO-5 prints five (17586.74 UAH), paying for itself where runs are regular.
• Level of automation. The ST-110 is a pneumatic automatic at 7067.05 UAH: pneumatics, not the operator's hand, create the pressure, so results are more consistent. The ST-130 comes in blue and red (4999.63 and 5335.01 UAH).
• Type of item. There is a dedicated CE-6 model for thermal flasks and tumblers (3880.75 UAH). The item's diameter must match the heating element, so check the dimensions before buying.

If you plan to print on both mugs and T-shirts, one mug press will not do: textiles require a separate flat heat press. And do not buy a mug heat press without blanks: you need mugs with a polymer coating.

How to use a mug heat press: basic steps

The general workflow is as follows. First, print the image as a mirror image on sublimation paper and wrap it around the mug, securing it with heat-resistant tape. Second, switch on the press and set the temperature to about 180-200 °C with a timer of a few minutes; exact values depend on the press model and the mug, so take them from the machine's manual. Third, insert the mug, lock the clamp and wait for the timer. It is best to see the process once in person, so the equipment can be tested before you buy.
