Magnets for Sublimation

Sublimation magnets: what these blanks are

Sublimation magnets are thin steel plates with a white, gold or silver polymer coating, supplied with a magnetic strip. The strip is glued to the back of the plate, and the finished souvenir stays firmly on a fridge, a metal board or a cabinet door. The image is transferred as with other blanks: a mirrored design is printed with sublimation ink on paper and pressed in a heat press at about 175 °C.

The blank is light, resists moisture and is quick to make: according to the manufacturer, in a flat press with a silicone mat it takes about two and a half minutes, and without a mat less than a minute. All you need is a printer with sublimation ink, paper and a flat heat press or a vacuum machine.

Shapes, sizes and colours

The catalogue has 24 items priced from 19.61 to 40.03 UAH each. There are three main base colours:

• white magnets — reproduce colour best and are ideal for photos;
• gold — for anniversaries, holidays and premium-looking gifts;
• silver — for a restrained, formal look.

Shapes include a 58×58 mm square, a 60 mm circle, a 60×45 mm oval, an 83×47 mm rectangle, a 62×55 mm heart and a 60 mm flower. For larger souvenirs there is a 90×90 mm square and a 108–110 mm circle. Small sizes suit custom batches, large ones work for promotional magnets with a logo.

What you can make

Photo magnets sell as travel souvenirs, wedding favours, children's birthday gifts and keepsakes. Companies order magnets with a logo and contact details for promotions. It is an affordable business with quick payback: a blank costs little and the finished item is easy to sell in a gift shop or online.
